Artists Residencies in Schools and Community Arts Programs

photo of artist working with studentArtist Residencies and Community Arts Programs are designed to provide unique learning experiences through the arts for all students in K-12 inclusive and special needs classrooms, as well as other community settings. Each residency and program is individually designed to

  • enable teachers to learn new tools to integrate the arts with other academic subjects while directly addressing the Maine State Learning Results and NCLB
  • provide direct, hands-on experience with professional artist in the classroom
  • encourage interdisciplinary learning and enrichment of curriculum content through the arts
  • engage all students through the multiple modalities inherent in artistic processes
  • promote full access to quality arts experiences for all students

ArtVan

VSA arts of Maine is merging with the ArtVan Program.

ArtVan is a mobile art therapy program which brings the arts to low income neighborhoods. Based in the Bath-Brunswick area but serving communities from Biddeford to Lewiston, ArtVan provides children of all abilities and disabilities with opportunities for safe creative expression and self-discovery. VSA arts of Maine has worked closely with ArtVan since it's founding by Jamie Silvestri in 2004. Call for Young Soloists

VSA arts of Maine seeks outstanding musicians from the state of Maine who have a disability, to enter the 2009 Young Soloists Award competition.  The top entry in Maine will receive a $200 stipend, and will move on to compete in the VSA arts national competition with an opportunity to win $5,000 and a performance in Washington D.C.
